Solid cloud cover today, with a whisper of wind from the SSE and pressure sitting still. On Lac Traverse, work structure within a cast of the bank first. The numbers single out the morning. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Traverse. It stands 145 metres above sea level. The water covers some 98 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 8.5 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. It ranks high for size among our Mauricie listings. Some 4.4 km away sits Sainte-Thècle, the nearest settlement. It is 56 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. At Lac Traverse light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July near 18°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Lac Traverse.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Aylwin at 2.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Traverse for certain.
