Overcast skies today, with a mirror surface most of the day with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Trapper around reed fringes and open pockets. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Trapper. The water sits 528 metres up. At roughly 2 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is a small entry by Mauricie standards. Leblanc sits 18 km from here and is the nearest stop. It is 227 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. On Lac Trapper the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
The seasonal spread runs -17°C to 16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Trapper.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Mooge, 0.4 km away. Rules at Lac Trapper are worth checking on the day.
