An even grey lid over the water, with a kind WSW breeze on the water and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Topper is the weed line and any gaps in it. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac Topper in Côte-Nord, Quebec. It stands 482 metres above sea level. With some 32 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 3.1 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. The closest town, Forestville, is 83 km away. Further out sit Saint-Fulgence (90 km) and Saint-Honoré (93 km). It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Read Lac Topper before you fish it and the day goes better.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 16°C in July. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. At Lac Topper the season follows that pattern closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac de la Lime, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Topper may have changed since it was mapped.
