Lac Tom in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  In Quebec, Lac Tom falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The bank is 298 metres above sea level. It measures about 13 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. About 2.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. The closest town, Pont Rouge, is 43 km away. Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc follows at 44 km, then Dolbeau-Mistassini at 49 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.

• Where to Fish on Lac Tom

  Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish.   The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 17°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Tom rarely departs from it.

• Tackle & Baits

  The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table.
