Soft grey light all day today, with a consistent blow out of the SSW and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Taylor are likely to sit near points where shallow meets deep. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Lac Taylor in the Mauricie part of Quebec. Elevation runs to 500 metres. It runs to roughly 10 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The full circuit measures close to 1.8 km on foot. Nearest town is Leblanc, 65 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 236 km off. Near neighbours: Lac Glos just 0.6 km, Lac Throop within 1.3 km, Lac des Verdiers just 1.3 km, Lac des Iles Rocheuses within 1.4 km and Lac Ezy just 1.6 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Lac Taylor the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. That is the shape of the year on Lac Taylor.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Failing this one, try Lac Glos, 0.6 km away. Rules at Lac Taylor are worth checking on the day.
