Solid cloud cover today, with a consistent blow out of the ENE and pressure going nowhere. Give the shallows early and the drop later the first hour at Lac Tardon. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Lac Tardon is one of the Nord-du-Québec waters in Quebec. The surface lies 247 metres up. About 9.33 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. The outline measures near 68 km, so a boat opens up water the bank never reaches. It ranks high for size among our Nord-du-Québec listings. For supplies, Sanikiluaq is 315 km out. The big place round here is Saguenay, 924 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Tardon light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The range across the year is -24°C to 13°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. Ice clears near late May and comes back about early November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac Tardon fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Maulnier, 12 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Tardon for certain.
