Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with mild air moving in from the SW and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Tanguay will be around reed fringes and open pockets. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Tanguay. The surface lies 388 metres up. It runs to roughly 21 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 3.3 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The closest town, Senneterre, is 60 km away. Further out sit Val-d'Or (86 km) and Barraute (86 km). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Lac Tanguay gives up more to patience than to distance.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Tanguay fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. The nearest alternative is Lac Drapeau, 1.1 km out. Check the position on Lac Tanguay before loading the car.
