  Lac Simone sits in Mauricie, out in Quebec. Elevation runs to 312 metres. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Weymontachie is the closest place, 48 km off. The big place round here is Trois-Rivières, 149 km distant. Water in the same corner: Lac de la Gelinotte at 1.6 km, Lac Laurette 2.3 km away, Lac a la Truite at 2.4 km, Lac Flamand 2.7 km away and Lac Petit at 3.7 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.

Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Simone gives up more to patience than to distance.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. From about late April to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. That is the shape of the year on Lac Simone.

For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand.
