Solid cloud cover today, with a soft SSE wind and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac Simard are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. The day peaks in the morning. Slow down and let the fish find the bait. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Simard stands in Mauricie, Quebec. The bank is 219 metres above sea level. At about 10 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 1.5 km keeps the choices simple. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Supplies mean a trip to Laurentides, 18 km off. Then Sainte-Thècle, 24 km, and Saint-Ubalde, 25 km. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Mauricie list northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Simard that means starting tight and working out.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -14°C at the bottom of winter. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Lac Simard the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lac Alphonse, 0.8 km out. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Simard for certain.
