A grey, even sky over the water, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Lac Sere will be around any hard bottom among the soft. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Lanaudière end of Quebec holds Lac Sere. The bank is 433 metres above sea level. Roughly 95 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The shoreline runs about 6.2 km, so it pays to pick a stretch and stay with it. On our Lanaudière list it sits near the top for size. For supplies, Manawan is 34 km out. Then Ferme-Neuve, 66 km, and Rivière-Rouge, 67 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Sere gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That shapes the year on Lac Sere.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Failing this one, try Lac Sonoma, 2.1 km away. Confirm access to Lac Sere locally before you travel.
