No direct sun expected today, with a working E breeze and no real change in pressure. On Lac Scoter, work the weed line and any gaps in it first. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cold hands, careful casts: precision is everything today.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac Scoter. It lies 119 metres above sea level. The water covers around 5.77 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 25 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Across our Quebec listings, few waters are bigger. Inukjuak lies 81 km from the water. Puvirnituq lies 175 km off, Sanikiluaq another 263 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Nord-du-Québec records list Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Treat Lac Scoter as a water to read rather than to cover.
Averages move between -24°C in February and 12°C in July. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Break-up comes around early June, and the run that follows is short and strong. The water is typically free of ice between early June and early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Scoter.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Innaalulik, 5.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Where Lac Scoter is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
