Fresh rain topping the water up today, with stillness over the whole water with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac Samson along the seam between weed and open water. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Samson lies in Lanaudière, in Quebec. Height above sea level is 350 metres. Around 13 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The full circuit measures close to 1.9 km on foot. The town to know is Manawan, 39 km out. After that come Ferme-Neuve at 68 km and Mont-Laurier at 84 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. On Lac Samson that means starting tight and working out.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near late April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Samson.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac des Quinze is 1 km off. Ask locally about Lac Samson if anything is unclear.
