A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a gentle ripple from the SE and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Sakami should centre on the seam between weed and open water. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Lac Sakami in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. This is northern bush ground. This is big water, about 628.91 sq km, and in a wind it behaves like a small sea. The form is ragged, which puts a lot of structure within casting range. It is among the larger waters listed here for Nord-du-Québec. Nearest town is Chisasibi, 154 km off. Further out sit Waskaganish (239 km) and Moose Factory (343 km). The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
The basin drops to a measured 110 metres. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Take Lac Sakami a stretch at a time.
July runs about 15°C on average, January about -21°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid May. Ice usually gives way near mid May, and forms again about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Anyone fishing Lac Sakami regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Depres, 17 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Sakami.
