Lac Sainte-Marie sits within Côte-Nord in Quebec. The bank is 58 metres above sea level. The water covers some 34 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Roughly 2.0 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. For supplies, Havre-Saint-Pierre is 50 km out. Beyond it, Gaspé at 119 km and Perce at 152 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Côte-Nord include logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. The shape of Lac Sainte-Marie rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -12°C on the long-run figures. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan around that when you fish Lac Sainte-Marie.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Records show it does not hold water year-round. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Malenfant sits 4.6 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Lac Sainte-Marie before loading the car.
