Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the S with the barometer flat. Activity on Lac Saint-Germain should centre on points where shallow meets deep. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Laurentides entry here is Lac Saint-Germain, in Quebec. This is pine and birch ground. At about 78 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 4.6 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. On our Laurentides list it sits near the top for size. Start from Mont-Laurier, 36 km down the road. After that come Saint-Raphaël at 39 km and Maniwaki at 39 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and brook trout. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. At Lac Saint-Germain light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. It holds true on Lac Saint-Germain more years than not.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Petit lac Saint-Germain at 1.2 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac Saint-Germain as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
