Dull, settled light over the water, with a light chop building from the SSW and no real change in pressure. Start the search at Lac Rule along the shallows early and the drop later. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Within Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, you have Lac Rule. The surface lies 424 metres up. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Start from Leblanc, 114 km down the road. The big place round here is Gatineau, 272 km distant. Water in the same corner: 0.6 km out stands Lac Zoo, Lac Golden at 0.6 km, 0.9 km out stands Lac Zip, Lac de la Tarentule at 1.3 km and 1.8 km out stands Lac Therese. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Rule fishes better once you know its edges.
The seasonal spread runs -18°C to 16°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Rule fishes to that pattern most years.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lac Zoo, 0.6 km away. Where Lac Rule is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
