Unstable air with storms likely today, with a mirror surface most of the day with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Rubina should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue entry here is Lac Rubina, in Quebec. Around the bank it is northern bush. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Abitibi-Témiscamingue standards. Val-d'Or sits 62 km from here and is the nearest stop. Then Senneterre, 70 km, and Barraute, 83 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Lac Rubina for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The range across the year is -16°C to 17°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That is the shape of the year on Lac Rubina.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. There is camping recorded roughly 910 m off. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Lendit, 2.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Lac Rubina before loading the car.
