No direct sun expected today, with a busy NW wind on the open water and no real change in pressure. Lac Rouge should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Rouge belongs to Côte-Nord, Quebec. The water sits 602 metres up. At some 1.45 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. At about 8.4 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Supplies mean a trip to Port-Cartier, 66 km off. Saint-Alexandre follows at 66 km, then Sept-Îles at 79 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Lac Rouge before you fish it and the day goes better.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 14°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around mid May. Break-up sits around mid May on average, with the water closing again about early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Lac Rouge rarely departs from it.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Provencher, 1.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Rouge if anything is unclear.
