Soft grey light all day today, with just enough W wind to ripple the surface with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Rosie is any hard bottom among the soft. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Rosie is a Lanaudière water, in Quebec. Land around it is taiga. Surface area is around 11 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. Shoreline comes to about 2.3 km, small enough to learn in a day. The nearest place of any size is Manawan, 26 km away. Ferme-Neuve lies 73 km off, Saint-Michel-des-Saints another 77 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. The shape of Lac Rosie rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -16°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Rosie.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. If the gate is shut, Lac Longtin at 4.6 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Lac Rosie carry more weight than any list.
