Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with steady pressure of wind from the S and the barometer holding steady. The productive water at Lac Rondeau will be around the weed line and any gaps in it. A long productive spell runs night into morning. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one.

Lac Rondeau falls in Mauricie, part of Quebec. Everything around it is boreal forest. About 8 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Nearest town is La Tuque, 45 km off. Beyond it, Laurentides at 60 km and Métabetchouan at 80 km. Water in the same corner: Petit lac Couillard after 0.7 km, Lac Savane just 1.5 km, Lac Couillard after 1.5 km, Lac Etau just 1.5 km and Petit lac Shea after 1.9 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch among the fish reported. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Lac Rondeau the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Seasonal averages run from -16°C in January up to 17°C in July. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Lac Rondeau to follow that timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Petit lac Couillard, 0.7 km away. None of that is settled for Lac Rondeau in what we hold.
