Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with calm air over the water and the barometer holding steady. The fish at Lac Rock are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Rock sits in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, out in Quebec. The surroundings are northern bush. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The full circuit measures close to 1.5 km on foot. Nearest town is Senneterre, 103 km off. For a city, Gatineau is 299 km off. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Abitibi-Témiscamingue records list northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Rock gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 16°C in July. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. It holds true on Lac Rock more years than not.
We hold no note on access for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac Margot is 0.8 km distant. Check the position at Lac Rock before loading the car.
