A closed sky with even light today, with a gentle ripple from the SW with the glass holding level. The fish at Lac Rock are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In Quebec, Lac Rock falls inside Outaouais. The surface lies 350 metres up. With some 22 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 2.8 km, and most of it is walkable. Deep River at 15 km is the nearest place to stop. Chalk River is 24 km away, with Petawawa at 41 km. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Rock that means starting tight and working out.
Average temperature peaks around 18°C in July and bottoms out near -14°C in January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Rock.
Access is not recorded for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Georges is 1.5 km off. For Lac Rock, the notice at the access point is the final word.
