An even grey lid over the water, with the water lying quiet and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac Rochu should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

You will find Lac Rochu in Mauricie, Quebec. It lies 298 metres above sea level. The water covers some 12 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 1.9 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. You are 41 km from La Tuque. Laurentides lies 74 km off, Métabetchouan another 78 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. The shape of Lac Rochu decides where the fish sit.
Averages move between -16°C in January and 17°C in July. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about late April to mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac Rochu more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Lac Daubaride at 1.4 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Rochu for certain.
