Steady rain over the water today, with dead-still conditions and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Rice should be near the shallows early and the drop later. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Quebec holds Lac Rice, in Mauricie. Everything around it is taiga. At roughly 10 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Around 1.4 km of margin, front to back. You are 26 km from Weymontachie. It is 171 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. Close by you also have: Lac Baker at about 0.9 km, Lac Aetna after 1.4 km, Lac East at about 1.5 km, Lac Faber after 1.9 km and Lac Gagne at about 2.3 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The near bank of Lac Rice is often the one people ignore.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -16°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. The season on Lac Rice follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Lac Baker, 0.9 km away. Treat Lac Rice as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
