Soft grey light all day today, with a whisper of wind from the WSW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Reed along inflow corners and shaded margins. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

This water sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank gives way to northern bush. It covers about 4 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Most waters listed here for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are larger. Saint-Honoré at 74 km is the nearest place to stop. Saguenay is the closest city, 86 km away. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Lac Reed is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid May. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near early November in autumn. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. At Lac Reed the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Fleurette, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Reed.
