No direct sun expected today, with light air out of the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Puff along bays that hold the day's warmth. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Puff lies in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in Quebec. The ground around here is northern bush. About 6 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. For a base, Leblanc sits 116 km out. The nearest city of size is Gatineau, 261 km away. Close by you also have: Lac Nama (0.6 km), Lac Robo a touch under 1.8 km, Lac Wakelam (2.6 km), Lac Houll a touch under 2.6 km and Lac Dea (2.6 km). No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. The county list is broader than any single water. Fish Lac Puff where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Long-term averages put July at about 16°C and January near -18°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. On Lac Puff the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Lac Nama is 0.6 km off. For Lac Puff in particular, ask before you travel.
