Damp, showery conditions today, with a kind SW breeze on the water with the glass holding level. Give any hard bottom among the soft the first hour at Lac Provencher. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Nord-du-Québec entry here is Lac Provencher, in Quebec. The country round it is taiga from end to end. Roughly 72 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Some 7.1 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. 183 km away sits Godefroy, the nearest town. The big place round here is Saguenay, 423 km distant. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Lac Provencher for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Typical July readings run about 13°C; by January the average is down near -23°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Count the season from break-up, usually late May. The open-water window runs from around late May to about late October in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Lac Provencher the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac Magneron is 12 km off. For Lac Provencher in particular, ask before you travel.
