Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with a faint SW drift with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Prospere will be around sheltered bays and points. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, this is Lac Prospere. Country round the bank runs to boreal forest. With some 22 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The full circuit measures close to 3.6 km on foot. Senneterre sits 61 km from here and is the nearest stop. Lebel-sur-Quévillon follows at 80 km, then Barraute at 89 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Abitibi-Témiscamingue cover northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Lac Prospere the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. At Lac Prospere the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Aurele, 3.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Lac Prospere are worth checking on the day.
