Solid cloud cover today, with flat calm through the day with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Profile should come off the seam between weed and open water. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Profile falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. The land about it is taiga. It measures about 26 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Around 3.5 km of margin, front to back. Chibougamau sits 78 km from the bank. Beyond it, Chapais at 84 km and Leblanc at 113 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Profile repays a walk before the first cast.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Lac Profile fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Lac Saturnin at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position at Lac Profile before loading the car.
