Heavy overcast holding through the day, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Prieur should centre on windblown banks where food collects. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Night
Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Prieur. This is spruce and muskeg ground. At 7 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. 51 km away sits Manawan, the nearest town. Then Leblanc, 91 km, and Weymontachie, 93 km. What else is close: Lac des Barils near enough 1 km, Lac Armature 3 km away, Lac Omer near enough 3.4 km, Lac Michel 3.8 km away and Lac Team near enough 4.1 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no depth figure for this one. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Take Lac Prieur a stretch at a time.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. On Lac Prieur that shapes the whole year.
Our records carry no access rule either way. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac des Barils at 1 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Lac Prieur may have changed since it was mapped.
