A closed sky with even light today, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lac Potato should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The day peaks in the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Potato is a Mauricie water, Quebec side. Spruce and muskeg runs right down to the water. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. Some 52 km away sits Manawan, the nearest settlement. Further out sit Weymontachie (63 km) and Leblanc (68 km). The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Lac Potato for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Anyone fishing Lac Potato regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lac Weasel, 1.2 km out. Nothing on Lac Potato should be assumed from this page alone.
