A closed sky with even light today, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Lac Poirier should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. One clear peak today: the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Poirier, in Quebec. The ground round it is spruce and muskeg. With some 16 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The whole outline is near 2.7 km, and most of it is walkable. For a base, Leblanc sits 80 km out. Then Chapais, 93 km, and Chibougamau, 104 km. Within a short run: Lac Nelson 1.2 km, Lac Bee near enough 1.7 km, Lac Emery 3.9 km, Lac Pfister near enough 4.3 km and Lac Dugas 4.5 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Poirier repays a walk before the first cast.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Poirier.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lac Nelson at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Treat Lac Poirier as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
