A closed sky with even light today, with mild air moving in from the S and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Lac Poirier should centre on reed fringes and open pockets. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Quebec holds Lac Poirier, in Outaouais. The surface lies 166 metres up. Surface area is around 30 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The edge runs 2.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Saint-Raphaël at 14 km is the nearest place to stop. Maniwaki lies 23 km off, Saint-Boniface another 36 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Poirier the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 19°C and January near -13°C on the long-run figures. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. At Lac Poirier the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. A jetty or pier is mapped about 270 m from here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Vaseux sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Lac Poirier before loading the car.
