Lac Pluvial in Laurentides: How and When to Fish It

• Overview

  Look for Lac Pluvial in the Laurentides part of Quebec. The bank is 318 metres above sea level. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Laurentides list. Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel sits 34 km from the bank. After that come La Minerve at 39 km and Mont-Laurier at 40 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.

• Where to Fish on Lac Pluvial

  Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Pluvial fishes better once you know its edges.

  The range across the year is -14°C to 18°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Pluvial.
