Lac Pletipi, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac Pletipi the obvious spot is not always the productive one.

  Climate records put July near 14°C and January near -22°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Once it clears, about late May, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages suggest open water from about late May through to roughly early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It holds true on Lac Pletipi more years than not.

• Tackle & Baits

  The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Maublant at 25 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Pletipi in what we hold.
