A wet system passing over today, with a decent S wind working the banks and steady pressure. Lac Pitre should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. The useful hours run night into morning. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Pitre is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. It lies 417 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 23 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. With about 2.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. La Tuque lies 34 km from the water. Laurentides follows at 59 km, then Métabetchouan at 87 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Pitre the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -16°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Anyone fishing Lac Pitre regularly works to that calendar.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac Clair sits 1.1 km off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Lac Pitre as something to verify.
