Soft grey light all day today, with a light chop building from the E with the barometer flat. Give reed fringes and open pockets the first hour at Lac Perkin. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

Lac Perkin is one of the Centre-du-Québec listings for Quebec. The water sits 453 metres up. It measures some 1.04 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. The edge covers about 6.6 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. For supplies, Salluit is 115 km out. Puvirnituq lies 240 km off, Kinngait another 330 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name brook trout, northern pike and lake chub. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Lac Perkin to its features, not to its size.
Long-run averages give July about 10°C and January about -25°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late June. Climate figures give an open season running late June to early October. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Lac Perkin the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Failing this one, try Lac Forcier, 6.8 km away. The position on Lac Perkin is worth confirming on the day.
