Fresh rain topping the water up today, with the surface near flat with a settled glass. Fish at Lac Perdu should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Quebec holds Lac Perdu, in Nord-du-Québec. It stands 381 metres above sea level. The water covers some 50 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The margin runs to about 7.2 km in total. For a base, Chapais sits 96 km out. It is 386 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Open biodiversity records for Nord-du-Québec list Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Perdu that means starting tight and working out.
The warmest month averages 16°C, the coldest about -20°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around early November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Lac Perdu the same rules apply, with local timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Lac de la Bruine is 1.2 km off. Check the position on Lac Perdu before loading the car.
