An even grey lid over the water, with a light chop building from the S and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Papillon will be around shallow cover and weed edges. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Lac Papillon is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. The surface lies 734 metres up. It sits higher than most water we list in Quebec. Nearest town is Saint-Fulgence, 34 km off. After that come La Baie at 41 km and Saint-Honoré at 44 km. Others within reach: 0.6 km out stands Lac du Traineux, Lac de la Pie roughly 0.7 km, 1 km out stands Lac Micmac, Lac Gagne roughly 1.1 km and 1.1 km out stands Lac Couleuvre. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Papillon that means starting tight and working out.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -18°C. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid May. Averages place the thaw at mid May and the freeze at early November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Lac Papillon fishes to that pattern most years.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Overnight stays are possible about 460 m out, where camping is mapped. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Lac du Traineux is 0.6 km off. Check the position on Lac Papillon before loading the car.
