Damp, showery conditions today, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Expect most activity at Lac Oskelaneo around the shaded margin through bright spells. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Out in Mauricie, Quebec, sits Lac Oskelaneo. It sits at 402 metres above sea level. Around 11.45 sq km of open water: conditions change from one end to the other. The bank runs about 77 km in total, split between open shore and sheltered corners. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. Leblanc is the closest place, 64 km off. Weymontachie follows at 108 km, then Manawan at 117 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Lac Oskelaneo repays a walk before the first cast.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -17°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It holds true on Lac Oskelaneo more years than not.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. The nearest alternative is Lac Doyon, 1.7 km out. Nothing on Lac Oskelaneo should be assumed from this page alone.
