Clear overhead with good moonlight, with hardly a ripple anywhere and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Nord should come off shallow cover and weed edges. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Lac Nord sits within Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec. The ground round it is northern bush. At roughly 8 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. The nearest place of any size is Saint-Honoré, 100 km away. Further out sit Labrecque (102 km) and Saint-Ambroise (104 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Nord where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Break-up comes around mid May, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about mid May and the closing near mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. On Lac Nord the same rules apply, with local timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Brun at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. The position on Lac Nord is worth confirming on the day.
