Showers crossing the water today, with a whisper of wind from the S and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Lac Noir is the shaded margin through bright spells. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Noir is a Lanaudière water, in Quebec. The surface lies 448 metres up. Surface area is around 24 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 3.1 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. For supplies, Mandeville is 27 km out. Saint-Jean-de-Matha is 28 km away, with Saint-Gabriel at 29 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Lac Noir should walk it once before setting up.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -15°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. On Lac Noir that shapes the whole year.
No access rule appears in what we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Petit lac de l'Araignee at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Where Lac Noir is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
