Rain colouring the margins today, with a consistent blow out of the SSW with the barometer flat. Give the calm side of the wind the first hour at Lac Nivelle. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Nivelle is a Lanaudière water, in Quebec. The country here is boreal forest. Surface area runs to roughly 1.02 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. The edge covers about 6.0 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Few waters listed in Lanaudière are bigger. 11 km away sits Manawan, the nearest town. Beyond it, Saint-Michel-des-Saints at 81 km and Weymontachie at 83 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Lanaudière, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Lac Nivelle the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Nivelle runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Lac Milard at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Nivelle are worth checking on the day.
