A closed sky with even light today, with light air out of the WSW and steady pressure. Activity on Lac Nicolas should centre on inflow corners and shaded margins. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Look for Lac Nicolas in the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean part of Quebec. The bank is 198 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 32 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 3.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Size puts it in the front rank of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. Dolbeau-Mistassini sits 54 km from the bank. Then Pont Rouge, 55 km, and Albanel, 56 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Public occurrence data for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean names northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Lac Nicolas should walk it once before setting up.
The year swings from about -20°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Nicolas.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac du Guillemot, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Ask locally about Lac Nicolas if anything is unclear.
