Soft grey light all day today, with a soft WSW wind and the barometer holding steady. Lac Ners should fish best around sheltered bays and points today. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

The Mauricie entry here is Lac Ners, in Quebec. The surroundings are spruce and muskeg. Small enough that any disturbance crosses the whole surface. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Mauricie. Métabetchouan is the closest town at 63 km. The big place round here is Saguenay, 98 km distant. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Ners the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Time your trip to Lac Ners by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Lineaire sits 0.3 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm access to Lac Ners locally before you travel.
