Soft grey light all day today, with a gentle ripple from the S with a settled glass. Fish at Lac Nautilus should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. A tough forecast; the evening offers the only real chance. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Lac Nautilus in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. It stands 381 metres above sea level. At roughly 9 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Forestville sits 55 km from the bank. Further out sit Betsiamites (62 km) and Chute-aux-Outardes (74 km). Also within reach: Lac Faust roughly 1.2 km, Lac Espadon just 1.4 km, Lac Engoulevent roughly 1.4 km, Lac Rolland just 1.9 km and Lac Clara roughly 2 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name logperch. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. At Lac Nautilus the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -18°C. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Lac Nautilus runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Faust, 1.2 km away. For Lac Nautilus in particular, ask before you travel.
