Solid cloud cover today, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Nagel will be around the first drop-off and weed lines. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

You will find Lac Nagel in Laurentides, Quebec. The setting is spruce and muskeg on every side. It runs to roughly 28 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Shoreline comes to about 4.7 km, small enough to learn in a day. It ranks high for size among our Laurentides listings. Nearest town is Manawan, 71 km off. Beyond it, Ferme-Neuve at 73 km and Mont-Laurier at 90 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Nagel a short move beats a long cast.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -16°C. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Nagel rarely departs from it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. The nearest alternative is Lac Lob, 0.9 km out. None of that is settled for Lac Nagel in what we hold.
