Flat light and a covered sky today, with a mirror surface most of the day with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Mud along the shaded margin through bright spells. Not a day the forecast likes; the morning keeps a flicker of interest. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Quebec holds Lac Mud, in Outaouais. It sits at 150 metres above sea level. The water covers some 17 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 2.3 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Saint-Raphaël sits 22 km from the bank. Maniwaki follows at 36 km, then Wakefield at 45 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. The county list is broader than any single water. At Lac Mud the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The range across the year is -13°C to 19°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly early December. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Mud runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Public data does not answer the access question here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Victoria sits 1.6 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Lac Mud carry more weight than any list.
