Rain on and off through the day, with a faint SSW drift and pressure sitting still. Fish at Lac Montviel should hold close to the margins and the shelf beyond them. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Look for Lac Montviel in the Lanaudière part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 448 metres. The water covers some 45 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. At about 6.2 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It is among the larger waters listed here for Lanaudière. Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm sits 30 km from here and is the nearest stop. Saint-Michel-des-Saints lies 38 km off, Rivière-Rouge another 40 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Lanaudière records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Read Lac Montviel for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -15°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Winter locks it down, and late April brings it back. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. That is the shape of the year on Lac Montviel.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Cadot sits 0.6 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Montviel may have changed since it was mapped.
