Dull, settled light over the water, with a faint SSW drift and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Moellon should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Moellon falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. The bank is 147 metres above sea level. At roughly 8 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. The nearest place of any size is Labrecque, 7.7 km away. Saint-Ambroise is 12 km and Alma 16 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Moellon the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Long-run averages give July about 18°C and January about -18°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at late November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Moellon rarely departs from it.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Labonte, 2.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Lac Moellon is worth confirming on the day.
